“I feel incredibly honoured to receive an MBE. It isn’t something I ever expected. When I was training hard to become the best athlete I could be I didn’t think about awards or recognition, so to be recognised in such a big way and awarded for services to triathlon has made me look at my achievements and feel proud of what I have accomplished, I hope to encourage more people to get active and hopefully take up triathlons. It has given me such a fantastic life and I love what I do.”
Helen Jenkins was given an MBE at Buckingham Palace for services to triathlon – she is the highest achieving British female triathlete in history over the Olympic discipline.
